My cousin gave her daughter the worst name ever – then started sobbing after realising what she’d done

A young mother has shocked her family after revealing the ‘terrible’ name she gave her newborn baby.

The 20-year-old gave birth to a little girl last month and didn’t tell anyone the name she had chosen until signing all the official documents.

She wanted to name the baby after her grandparents Harvey and Charlotte, so she blended them to form ‘Harlotte’.

She had never come across the word ‘harlot’, which means ‘prostitute’ or ‘sexually promiscuous’.

The woman’s cousin shared the details on Reddit, and explained how the family reacted to the news.

The cousin claimed: ‘She didn’t tell anyone the name idea until after she was named and papers signed.

‘My mum burst out, “YOU NAMED THE BABY WHORE??” and my cousin started screaming. This poor child. Harlotte. HARLOTTE.’

Many Redditors were quick to point out ‘Charvey’, ‘Charley’ or ‘Harley’ would’ve been a better choice when combining the two names.

‘Rough times ahead for the poor kid,’ one commented, another said: ‘That is so, so unfortunate. That poor kid.’

‘I’m normally against baby name shaming, but that’s terrible. And if this is real they need to change that poor kid’s name,’ a third wrote.

Another questioned the need to name the baby after others.

‘Ugh, that poor baby. When you are deciding on a baby name, there are certain things you need to consider,’ one more wrote.

Earlier this year experts listed the baby names that are in danger of going extinct in 2024 – and Millennial and Gen Z monikers are both taking the hit.

The team from parenting website Baby Center analysed baby names from the last two years and found that while ‘classic’ names like Diana, Amanda, and Aiden were on their way out – so were ‘trendy’ picks like Mckenzie, Brady, and Oaklee.

Today’s parents, Generation Y (also known as Millennials), are not only choosing new and different names but are also parenting a new and unique generation – Generation Alpha.

Trends show the generation – which has been born since 2010, will be the most digital, global, and visual generation on the planet.

When they have all been born (2025), they will number almost two billion – the largest generation in the history of the world.
