My house is only accessible by TRAM and the views are spectacular – but there’s one major drawback

  • Although the experience is ‘fun,’ the method of transportation has its obstacles

A woman whose home is only accessible by tram says she loves it – but there is one major drawback.

Courtney Johnson lives at the top of a steep cliff in rural Texas, and is required to use a funicular – a type of cable railway system that operates on a track – to ascend and descend the hill.

On her TikTok account, @courtney..johnson, the influencer answered a series of questions submitted by some of her 150,000 followers about her unconventional way of life.

Asked why she opted to purchase a house that required a tram to get to her doorstep, she answered: ‘I thought it was so fun and funky and – fun fact – I had this on my vision board since I was in high school.’

Another follower asked how she was able to move in all of her possessions and furniture using the funicular.

Courtney said: ‘The tram’s pretty big, it fits like six people, so it fit most of my furniture.’

She then states that there is no other option to travel to her house than by using a tram, as the hill is incredibly steep and makes it difficult to walk upwards without encountering issues.

Courtney said: ‘It’s really hard to climb up the hill. On the other side, there is a giant cliff. It would also be really hard to climb the hill with groceries and stuff.’

However, the influencer revealed that there are setbacks to her ‘fun’ method of transport – such as being almost isolated from emergency services and having to hand out specific instructions regularly to confused delivery drivers.

When asked if police or firefighters can get to her in case of an emergency, courtney admitted: ‘Honestly, probably no. It’s probably not safe.’

Answering a question about how she receives deliveries, she said: ‘On the “instructions” section I just tell people to put deliveries on the tram. Yes – a lot of people get confused.’

Some of her followers took to the comments to express their thoughts, with some amazed by Courtney’s set up, but many had reservations about having to rely on a method of transport that could isolate her further if a power outage were to occur.

One person wrote, ‘One breakdown. One mechanical function. One blackout. That’s all it takes,’ while another said, ‘I’m not an anxious person and this gave me anxiety.’

A third stressed: ‘Maybe it’s worth having the firefighters check it out and make a plan just in case! I’m sure there’s something you can do for emergencies.’

One person asked Courtney, ‘What happens if you lose power?’ to which the influencer responded, ‘Then I’m stuck.’

This comes after a house in Kansas City, U.S., sparked ridicule last August for its quirky layout with an upstairs fence and oven shoved in an ultra narrow corridor.
