One Day has been watched by over 15.2million viewers so far, with 5.3million subscribers tuning in the first week of release followed by a staggering 9.9million.

From February 12, the show became the most viewed English series globally, as numbers are predicted to continue rising.

On Monday, Kim left star of the series Ambika, who plays Emma, stunned after posting, ‘And if you need a show… One Day on Netflix. Kind of slow but worth sticking through because the end… if you want a good cry.’

Sharing Kim’s story to her profile, Ambika, also known for starring in BBC medical drama This Is Going to Hurt, simply said: ‘F***.’

The fandom surrounding the adaptation is down to the onscreen allure of its stars including White Lotus heartthrob Leo, who plays Dexter.

Their undeniable and heartbreakingly tangible chemistry brought the characters’ love story to life and gripped the nation.

But Ambika, who adored the novel as a 14-year-old, almost didn’t audition for the role over her fear of being rejected.

She said: ‘I turned the audition down, again and again, over several months.

‘I love the book so much and I just didn’t see myself playing that part. I thought it was a waste of time. I envisaged the disappointment I would experience if I entertained the idea.’

During her recent appearance on the Graham Norton show Ambika spoke about the difficulties she faced as a young comedian trying to make a name for herself in the TV industry.

She recalled the significance of Arthur’s Seat, which features in a poignant scene in the Netflix series, and climbing the Edinburgh mountain during good and bad times.

She said: ‘My career started in comedy and standup and sketches and improv. I’ve done many Edinburgh Fringes, I’ve done every fringe from the ages of 19 to 23…

‘The last time I was doing the fringe was 2019 and I was up there for the whole month and wasn’t really feeling in a great place, I was a bit lost, quite depressed, and like I was going to be getting anywhere…

‘Every year I do the fringe with whoever is up there, we always climb Arthur’s Seat on our last day… I remember it was a terrible time, I was not loving myself or my life.

‘Cut to almost exactly three years later, we filmed that scene just before the fringe started in 2022 and I got up to the top and I was the lead in a Netflix series of one of my favourite books in a location that means so much to me… it was a full circle moment.’
