Pop legend ‘lands new ITV food and wine show exploring South Africa’ in major career shake-up

Gary Barlow has reportedly landed his own ITV travel show in a huge career shake-up.

The Take That singer, 53, who has his own wine range in UK shops, will visit vineyards and sample local cuisine in South Africa, according to reports.

He will also indulge in local safari as he films the ITV show ahead of his bands This Life tour in April.

‘He’s a huge fan of South Africa and has been there on several occasions previously, so it was a natural choice as a destination for his first travelogue,’ a source told The Sun

‘And, of course, because it is one of the world’s biggest producers of fine wines, he will be in his absolute element delivering this show’.

The insider added the series will be made by the same production company that gave us Ainsley Harriott’s Taste Of Malta and is due to air on ITV later this year.

MailOnline has contacted ITV and Gary’s representatives for comment.

Gary boasts a 30-year passion for wine and revealed in 2021 that he was releasing a budget bottle, which will be available for just £8 in supermarkets.

The Patience hitmaker revealed he intended to appeal to the masses with crowd-pleasing wine from Spain, simply named Gary Barlow Organic, which is complete with a fitting piano key label.

Announcing the range, Gary said: ‘After months of learning about the process and tasting different blends, I’m very proud to now launch my own range of organic wines from Spain.’

The red, made from tempranillo and syrah grapes, is described as having a ‘rich, smooth’ flavour ‘rendolent of bright, autumnal evenings with layers of damson, cocoa and rosemary’, finishing on ‘a bright note of fresh cranberries’.

Meanwhile, Gary’s white – a blend of verdejo and viura grapes – is ‘overflowing with uplifting aromas of green apple and lime blossom’, along with lemon zest, pear and melon.

The singer worked with winemaker Paul Schaafsma, of Benchmark Drinks, who has previously created wines with Sir Ian Botham and Kylie Minogue.

Although his wine has mixed reviews from supposed experts, he celebrated selling more than a million bottles in stores from Morrisons to Harvey Nichols last year.

Talking about his love of wine previously, Gary told MailOnline: ‘Take That educated me about red wine.

‘If we were somewhere nice Howard [Donald] and Jason [Orange] would always order red wine.

‘They’d sit back in their chairs, swirl it around and talk about it to each other.

‘That was the first time I realised there’s a conversation around this – it’s not just people shoving it down. Because I used to see people drink all night, fall out of these clubs – it never looked that exciting to me. But when I saw Howard and Jason enjoying it, I wanted to get involved. I didn’t like the first one I tried, but Jason said, “You just need to keep at it until you find one you like”.’
