The Garfield Movie trailer shows Chris Pratt’s title character going from an abandoned kitten to a loveable fat cat before he joins his father on a heist

Sony Pictures has released the new trailer for The Garfield Movie, which finds Chris Pratt voicing the beloved title character.

Pratt, 44, lends his voice to Garfield, who returned to finish his voice work on the film in November after the SAG-AFTRA strike finally ended.

The new trailer reveals how the cat’s owner Jon Arbuckle (voiced by Nicholas Hoult) came to care for the orange tabby Persian feline.

The all-star voice cast also includes Samuel L. Jackson as Garfield’s ‘dad’ Vic, along with Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Snoop Dogg, in theaters May 24.

The trailer begins with Garfield as just a tiny kitten, whose seen being left in a street alley by a much larger cat, who tells him,’ Wait here, Junior. I’ll be right back.’

The bigger cat leaves Garfield alone in the alley, though he quickly catches the aroma of a restaurant across the street.

He walks over and sees Jon Arbuckle, dining by himself, about to take a bite of a pizza slice when he hears Garfield’s meow.

He sees Garfield pressed up against the window, which he opens to let the kitty inside, asking, ‘Are you hungry, little guy?’

Garfield manages to scarf down the entire pizza in moments, before starting to eat a lot of other food in the restaurant.

A waitress brings him one ‘familia style lasagna to go,’ with Garfield inside the box, already eating away, as Jon reveals, ‘I’m gonna name you Garfield.’

The trailer then shows off Garfield’s home life, plopping himself on Jon’s face to wish him a good morning, while watching some lasagna programming on TV.

Garfield and Jon are then at the vet, as Garfield tries to sit on a scale, immediately breaking it, as the vet tech calls for, ‘the big scale’ over the PA.

‘Does she need to announce it to the whole office?’ Garfield asks himself.

The next shot shows Jon serving Garfield and his dog Odie (Harvey Guillen) some lasagna as he grates parmesan cheese over it, asking them to, ‘Say when.’

‘Never, Jon. Bury me in cheese!’ Garfield insists, as he admits in a voice-over, ‘Life here is pretty near-perfect. Little did I know, it was all about to collapse.’

Suddenly, Garfield and Odie are pet-napped, as Garfield reunites with his ‘father’ Vic (voiced by Samuel L. Jackson).

Vic admits that he needs Garfield’s help, but an angry Garfield responds, ‘I don’t see you for years, and when I do, you’re on the run from a deranged cat.’

Vic adds they need to, ‘toughen you up,’ but Garfield insists, ‘I know tough, Vic. You’ve obviously never been in an Olive Garden that’s run out of breadsticks.’

The next shot shows Garfield falling through a moving floor at some sort of factory, but he lands on a massive brick of cheddar cheese, which is says is one of his, ‘top 26 favorite cheeses.’

Meanwhile, back at home, Jon is on the phone with the police, saying his, ‘orange tabby and my dog are missing,’ but he learns there are, ‘1,046 people ahead of you.’

Garfield tells Odie, ‘we have to go save my dad,’ as they show a cast list including Snoop Dogg, who voices a cat, as he’s seen saying, ‘Oh, that cat’s a goner.’

Ving Rhames’ character asks Garfield, ‘You think you can battle these villains on your own?’

Garfield responds, ‘If I don’t make it back, tell my story,’ as he’s launched off a bendy tree branch… only to be bounced back and forth between other trees.

Bowen Yang and Brett Goldstein’s characters are watching him bounce between the trees as Yang’s character says, ‘I kinda want to help him,’ but Goldstein’s character insists, ‘No, this is how he learns,’ before he’s launched onto a moving truck.

The trailer’s final shot shows Jon giving Garfield a bath, over his many protests, and when he’s blow-dried, his hair fluffs out and tells Odie, ‘You saw nothing’ as the trailer comes to an end.
