The good old days! Nostalgic snaps of Brits abroad during the heyday of the package holiday from the 1960s to the 1980s reveal retro swimwear and some very indulgent cocktails

Photos of Britons soaking up the sun in Mallorcan resorts on some of the first ever package holidays are set to evoke nostalgia in many.

The snaps appear in a photo-book The Package Holiday, showcasing the work of Trevor Clark and published by Hoxton Mini Press.

Clark was one of the first British photographers to capture the new hotels cropping up in Mallorca at the time, and the many Britons escaping the UK to enjoy them.

The photographs in the book take viewers back to the heyday of the package holiday, where British tourists would flock to the continent in the summertime to make the most of cheap flights and inclusive, all-you-can-eat buffets.

The brightly-coloured film shows tourists relishing a simple existence abroad, sipping cocktails by the pool as their children enjoy activities in the kids’ club before enjoying a post-dinner dance in the hotel.

The book has been curated by Trevor’s son Jake as he makes the archive of images public for the first time.

Raised between Mallorca and Cornwall, Jake is now an artist and Graphic Design lecturer at UAL and regularly showcases his paintings in solo and group shows.

But for his latest artistic venture, Jake has looked past his creations and towards his father’s creative outputs.

From fluorescent cocktails to equally brightly coloured speedos and cigarettes by the pool, Trevor’s images have captured past holidays through a rose-tint and welcomes comparisons to the now more hectic, technology-filled trips.
