Where was One Day filmed? Inside the real locations from Netflix’s hit series – but do YOU recognise any?

Hit drama One Day has been leaving viewers swooning at its dreamy love story and beautiful locations.

A 14-part adaptation of David Nicholls’ best-selling novel has been a  smash for Netflix, with viewers hooked on the ‘will-they-won’t-they’ drama between two friends.

Ambika Mod, 27, stars as Emma Morley in the 20-year love story, opposite White Lotus actor Leo Woodall, 27.

Emma and Leo’s character Dexter Mayhew meet on the 15th July 1988, the night of their Edinburgh University graduation. The next morning, they go their separate ways, but the novel and TV series catches up with them on the same day every year.

One Day spans the years of Em and Dex’s relationship and the various places they travel to as they fall in and out of love.

MailOnline takes a look at the picturesque locations that were used for filming in the series.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Em and Dex first meet at the 300-year old University of Edinburgh’s Old College at their graduation night party.

After a night spent at Emma’s flat in Rankeillor Street and a day hiking around the city’s dormant volcano, Arthur’s Seat, a flustered Dexter sprints up the Vennel Steps to find Emma and ask for her number.

According to Netflix‘s behind-the-scenes Tudum site, the One Day production team hiked all the way up to the top of Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh’s Holyrood Park to film scenes.

Vennel Steps are also a favourite spot among tourists, and can be reached by taking an alleyway just off Grassmarket for a phenomenal view of Edinburgh Castle.

Primrose Hill, London

A romantic sunset scene on Primrose Hill, in which Emma and Dexter look out over an early Nineties London skyline, also features in the series.

The London hotspot overlooks noticeable landmarks in the central area of the capital, such as the BT Tower and St Paul’s.

Other scenes shot within the city include Old Suffolk Punch, a pub in Hammersmith that doubles up as Loco Caliente, the fictional Mexican restaurant where Emma works, and the Fire nightclub where Dexter parties, in Vauxhall.

Hatfield House, Hertfordshire

Located in Hertfordshire, England, Hatfield House is also featured in the series.

We first meet Emma’s best friend, Tilly, in the Edinburgh flat after Dexter joins the duo for breakfast for the first time.

Later on in the series, the reception following Tilly’s wedding was filmed at Hatfield House, and Emma was also seen strolling through Lime Walk in the West Garden.

The stately manor has previously been used in Netflix’s Bridgerton, as well as in its spin-off series Queen Charlotte.

The historic house is a magnificent example of Jacobean architecture and English heritage. Built in the early 17th century, the house is renowned for its design, historical significance, and extensive grounds.

Paris, France

In episode 12, Emma, who becomes a published author, is living in Paris when Dexter, on the brink of being divorced, arrives to visit the city.

The pair meet at Gare du Nord, before wandering around the French capital, passing by Rue Pierre-Semard and Passerelle Emmanuelle-Riva, an iron bridge that stretches across Canal St Martin.

Emma’s apartment is on Rue des Gobelins in the 13th arrondissement, a neighbourhood still connected to its tapestry heritage.

Beyond its historical roots, Rue des Gobelins is now a lively street with a mix of shops, cafes, bakeries and cultural institutions.

Rome, Italy

In episode two, a slightly older Dex, who is now working as a teacher, travels with his students to Rome while Em performs in a touring drama group in England.

While Emma tours around schools in the Midlands on a clapped-out minibus, Dexter is cavorting around the Italian capital, before meeting his mother at a boutique hotel.

Dex meets her at a rooftop bar in Bio Hotel Raphael on Largo Febo, which overlooks the 17th-century Fontana dei Quattro Fiumi, before ambling through a string of parks and bars in the streets of the Trastevere quarter.

Lead director Molly Manners knew that One Day’s Rome in Episode 2 needed to feel colourful and vibrant and to contrast Emma’s lacklustre drama experience in Wolverhampton.

He said: ‘We wanted to get this real sense of place and scale, but not to be in any way obvious or clichéd in terms of the places that we went.’

Paros Island, Greece

In episode 4, Emma and Dexter go on a drama-filled holiday to Paros – where they made the decision to cancel their plans to island hop around Greece and stay put on the island.

Emma’s plans to keep things platonic are put to the test when the hotel presumes they’re a couple and gives them a room with a double bed.

The charming Greek destination is located in the heart of the Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea.

Paros is also home to picturesque villages, with the island’s capital, Parikia, packed with whitewashed buildings, cobblestone streets and a Cycladic charm that viewers can catch a glimpse of.

The series also filmed on the island’s beaches and at the Naoussa Harbour.
