Zara Tindall looks ready for action as she braves gloomy weather to compete in Gloucestershire

Zara Tindall looked ready for action as she competed at a training event at Rectory Farm Arena yesterday.

The Princess Royal‘s daughter, 42, known for her equestrian capabilities, rode two of her horses – the dark brown ‘Showtime’ and grey-coated ‘Classicals Euro Star’ – in what appeared to be gloomy, cloudy weather in Gloucestershire.

She wrapped up in a navy waterproof jacket, and sported white jodhpurs, riding boots and a helmet.

The royal – who won silver in a team event for Britain at the 2012 London Olympics – appeared in high spirits as she looked to show off her Showjumping and Dressage prowess.

Known as much for her sporting prowess as her sartorial choices, Zara attends equestrian events around the world, both as a formidable athlete when she is competing and as a trend-setting fashionista when she is a spectator.

Her illustrious career includes a gold at the European Eventing Championships in 2005 and a silver at the World Equestrian Games in 2006.

Zara has also previously been crowned BBC Sports Personality of the Year and has been nicknamed the Royal Olympian.

Last month Zara showed off her chic fashion sense as she opted for a full burgundy ensemble while enjoying a solo day out at Cheltenham’s Festival Trials Day.

The King’s niece was without her husband Mike and their three children in the Gloucestershire town, which has become known for its namesake racecourse.

She wrapped up warm in a long, dark red coat, which she paired with matching leather-look boots and gloves.

She completed her ensemble with a black turtleneck and a chic navy blue fedora, which was accented with a decorative sash.

Cheltenham’s Festival Trials Day is described as ‘the final opportunity to see the sports protagonists go out to battle on Cheltenham Racecourse’s hallowed turf before the Cheltenham Festival‘, which takes place in March.

Its website says: ‘With a now eight-race card, where every race is a trial for a race at the Cheltenham Festival, it doesn’t get much more exciting, unless it is the Festival itself.

‘The excitement isn’t restricted to the track, with fantastic entertainment during the day and The Wickermen performing live music after racing, it is a seamless prelude to the Cheltenham Festival.’

Meanwhile earlier this month her husband Mike Tindall, 45, who she shared three children with, revealed that one of the few times he’s ever cried was over the loss of one of his beloved dogs.

Speaking to comedians Jack Dee and Seann Walsh on the Oh My Dog podcast, the former rugby star spoke about the three dogs he shares with wife.

Mike, who lives on Princess Anne‘s Gatcombe Park estate with Zara, currently has three dogs – black Labradors Storm and Pepper, who are mother and daughter, and Blink the Brindle Boxer – named after ‘power women’ from Marvel Comics.

He told the hosts: The only times I’ve ever cried, well really ever cried, [was] when I had a bull Mastiff called Misty who died and then Cawley, who was Storm’s mum when she died as well.’

The ex-England captain admitted he’s worried about Storm, 15, who is Pepper’s mother, because she’s less active.

‘It’s difficult with her at the moment because she is, you know, unfortunately, she’s very old now and it’s getting to that sort of time.

‘Where you’re asking the question, is she enjoying what she’s doing, you know?’

He went on to explain that Storm, who was gifted to Zara by her friend as a puppy, has lost interest in outdoor walks and now prefers to stay in her bed.

‘She’s just got no interest. You shake a lead at her, you go out, you go outside. You have to sort of drag her outside.

‘She’s like, “I don’t want to go”. And I’m like, “Well, yeah, you need to sort of go too”.

‘You take her outside, you’re trying to get her to, and then you let her off to go do her business and she just bolts.

‘She knows exactly where the door is and she knows she can open the door, so she just nudges it straight back on the bed.

‘She might take a c*** in the kitchen on the way past.

‘So yeah, it’s a it’s a really horrible situation. I think that’s the worst place to for an owner to be is in that situation.’

The father-of-three went on to compare 15-year-old Storm to an elderly person, who dislikes loud noises and favours peaceful surroundings.

‘She’s like, an old human being. She hates noise.

‘So whenever she’s, like, happy as Larry, and then you get down for the breakfast time and she’s like, “Please open any door – I’m going a different room because the noise is doing my head in”.’
