Zendaya’s figure-flaunting robot suit at Dune: Part Two premiere is a vintage 1995 Mugler look which turned heads on the runway as it marked the age of the internet

Zendaya consistently steals the spotlight at red carpet events and her appearance at the Dune: Part Two premiere in London was no exception.

The 27-year-old looked nothing short of spectacular in a vintage Mugler robot suit, styled by Law Roach, in celebration of the sci-fi epic.

Hailing from the designer’s fall/winter 1995 ‘Cirque d’Hiver’ 20th anniversary collection, Zendaya’s look boasted a chrome suit of armour with clear panels that flaunted her incredible physique.

The iconic design first set tongues wagging when it first appeared on the catwalk almost 30 years ago, and it has since become a fashion moment which signalled the age of the internet.

Zendaya, who plays the warrior Chani in the franchise, complemented her daring ensemble with a diamond and sapphire necklace, along with Mugler metallic stiletto heels.

Mugler’s celebrated fall/winter 1995 couture show was staged at Cirque d’Hiver – a circus on the outskirts of Paris – in celebration of the label’s 20th anniversary.

The glamorous hour-long presentation, which was broadcast live on primetime French television, incorporated a performance by James Brown.

German supermodel Nadja Auermann emerged on the runway wearing an oversized hat and long coat, unveiling the cyborg-inspired ensemble, designed in collaboration with aircraft specialist Jean-Pierre Delcros, beneath.

This iconic look, later captured by Helmut Newton for Vogue Magazine in November 1995, marked a memorable fashion moment at the dawn of the Internet age.

Since then, it has influenced a number of designers, including Alexander McQueen, Nicolas Ghesquière and Gareth Pugh.

Strasbourg-born Thierry Mugler, who launched his eponymous brand in 1973, swiftly rose to prominence with his avant-garde, theatrical approach to haute couture, which often presented the designer’s vision of the future.

Mugler went on to design costumes for films, such as Mutant Action (1993), Z Chromozome (2012) and Ready to Wear (1994), as well as the circus.

Zendaya receives frequent acclaim for her impeccable fashion choices, which have been a collaborative effort with stylist Law Roach since 2011.

At the time, Roach was a friend of Zendaya’s father’s friend and styled the then 14-year-old for a premiere of Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never film – the pair have been collaborating ever since.

The premiere of Dune 2 in London yesterday was a true fashion parade, captained by Zendaya in vintage Mugler.

Hailing from the designer’s fall/winter 1995 ‘Cirque d’hiver’ 20th-anniversary collection, Zendaya’s look boasted a chrome suit of armour with clear panels across the bodice and legs.

The star also sported a pair of silver metal gloves, along with matching heels, while her raven locks were swept into a wet-look updo.

Zendaya complemented her daring ensemble with an opulent diamond and sapphire necklace.

And the actress appeared to be aware that her outfit choice would be a talking point of the premiere as she posed with a solemn expression for photographs.

Speaking to co-star Timothee Chalamet, the actor looked as though even he was taken aback by the magnificent display.

The 28-year-old, who once again takes on the lead role of Paul Atreides, appeared to have missed the memo as he donned a pair of silver patterned trousers and black loose-fitting top.

Fans went wild for the ensemble as they headed to Twitter to express their shock at Zendaya’s look.

One wrote: ‘Zendaya wearing the vintage Thierry Mugler 1995 fall metal fashion suit at the Dune Part Two premier. Ohh she’s setting standards.’

A second added: ‘Zendaya wearing Thierry Mugler fall 1995 haute couture robot suit at the world premiere for Dune: Part Two in London. INSANE!!!!’

Someone else said: ‘Proof that #Zendaya is from a different universe. The #Dune star’s latest premiere look is vintage @Mugler from the Fall/Winter 1995 Couture show’.

While another penned: ‘Zendaya for the Dune: Part Two premiere. Its looking like omh.’

However, it wasn’t long until Zendaya ditched her metallic robot suit for something a little more comfortable.

Slipping into a demure black evening dress, also by Mugler, the star let her natural beauty speak for itself after her initial daring ensemble.

The sleek design featured a figure-hugging silhouette and floor-sweeping hem, highlighting the actress’ statuesque figure.
